Did you know Council Grove has an affinity for water? Perhaps you're in the mood for a stroll down the Neosho Riverwalk which stretches from the Santa Fe Trail to the Kaw Mission State Historic Museum. Looking for a bit more water? Take a five-minute ride north on Mission Street and you will discover two beautiful lakes. The Council Grove Reservoir will tempt you with its well-kept camping, boating, swimming and fishing facilities. A few minutes from there, our City Lake boasts cabins, fishing and fun in the water. Visit our lakes and you just might get hooked!


When you're finished exploring Council Grove, head out on the Scenic Byway to delight in the beautiful Kansas Prairie. To the North on Highway 177 is Manhattan, home to the Flint Hills Discovery Center.  A short drive to the south will put you at the Tallgrass Prairie National Park. The gracefully rolling Flint Hills are inspiring any time of year. Kansas is full of special places.

Council Grove is filled with pioneer history. There are also 24 historic sites around town for you to explore. Some on the National Register of Historic Sites and some on the Santa Fe Trail National Historic Trail. The Council Grove Historic Site brochures are in our foyer to help you find your way.
